Respecting our taonga
Last month we visited Ngā Whatu Kaipono o Te Wheke-a-Muturangi (Northern Brothers Island) to return a deceased Tuatara that had been in captivity in Waitohi at the Picton Aquarium back into the whenua to finally rest.
As kaitiaki of these taonga and wāhi tapu, we hold a responsibility to ensure that these practices are done in line with our tikanga.
Ngā Whatu Kaipono is one of many islands in and around Tōtaranui that provide home to our Tuatara. And if you are lucky enough you can spot them!
