NOTICE OF HUI
BENEFICIARIES OF OAMARU 2A NO 3 (UMUKURI URUPĀ) MĀORI RESERVATION
BEING ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO WHAKAPAPA TO TE ĀTIAWA KI ONAUKU (EAST BAY, ARAPAOA ISLAND) - INCLUDING THE POTENTIAL BENEFICIAL OWNERS IN TE WAKA PAROA THE NEW WAI124 TRUST
E te whānau kia ora koutou katoa
Please inform other whānau of Te Ātiawa that whakapapa or may whakapapa to our Umukuri urupā in Onauku . Due to COVID-19 uncertainties we have decided to hold a Zoom Hui to protect our whakapapa. The Māori Land Court have confirmed that this approach is permissible. We will maintain our tikanga at the hui.
BACKGROUND TO HUI
On the 14th December 2021 whānau and the Marlborough District Council (MDC) suggested a proposal (subject to whānau agreement) to temporarily locate the two towable ngā whare iti (tiny buildings) Te Whare Karakia and Te Whare Iti (that have been subject to an MDC Abatement Notice) FROM their current location on our WAI 124 Whānau Claim land TO our Urupā whenua at Umukuri. The proposal (again subject to whānau agreement) agreed that with the location of the two whare iti on the urupā whenua that the use would be for whānau to carry out our cultural and spiritual practices in accordance with our tikanga in regards to Te Whare Karakia and the storage of implements for use in the maintenance of the urupā in regards to Te Whare Iti. We do not see any discharges coming from either whare, and consequently no adverse effects on the environment.
The two tiny whare are ultimately intended for location back on our Wai 124 Whānau Claim land at Umukuri however the MDC have ruled there current location on our WAI 124 land as non-permissible at this time and whānau have agreed in pricinciple, subject to wider whānau agreement to this alternative temporary location proposal.
Our proposed trust Te Waka Paroa will oversee the later relocation of the two tiny whare back to our WAI 124 land however the establishment of the new trust is pending a Māori Land Court Trust application review currently scheduled for January 2022.
PURPOSE OF HUI/MEETING:
- Discuss and confirm the temporary move and location of our two ngā whare iti (tiny buildings) Te Whare Karakia and Te Whare Iti onto our Urupā whenua at Umukuri.
- Discuss and confirm the use of the two ngā whare iti (tiny buildings) Te Whare Karakia and Te Whare Iti once sited on our Urupā whenua at Umukuri.
