Te Kotahi o Te Tauihu Charitable Trust
Tēnā koutou e te whānau
Here we are already in Whiringa-ā-nuku!
It's been a busy time for the Trust. We’ve been out and about helping whānau with training and mahi and meeting providers and employers. A lot has also been happening in terms of follow-ups post Levels 3 and 4 and setting up a base in Whakatū, and there is significant work going on in the emergency management space to refine our response efforts and ensure they are fit for purpose.
On that note (and in generally awesome news) we welcome Kahutane Whaanga to our team as our new Project Manager – Emergency Management. Kahutane joins us part-time for this fixed-term contract to lead the planning, oversight and implementation of our Emergency Management strategy. It’s an exciting role and if you know Kahutane, you know this will be the perfect fit. Kahutane is well known across Te Tauihu and has been heavily involved in Civil Defence, Whānau Ora programmes and Māori services across the board.
In double good news, we have also employed Whitney Whaanga to lead our Kōanga Kai project to support whānau across the rohe set up their own māra kai. Whitney has been running her own business for several years now and is looking forward to connecting with whānau and getting stuck in.
We are still working to ensure whānau have the right information about getting vaccinated against Covid-19. A big mihi to RaNae Niven for her continuing work in this area - read more about what's happening later in the pānui.
That's a brief, but by no means extensive rundown. I guess the key message from me is, please e te whānau, if you come across whānau Māori needing support or struggling with work, training or existing services, we are here for referrals. You can call or email us, or visit our website for a referral form.
