Wattle Control Training Event
During spring, the hills in and around Waitohi/Waikawa are covered in a sea of yellow. This is because the wattle trees are in flower and those of you who live locally and suffer hay fever will know all about them! The main species found around Waitohi/Picton is Acacia dealbata, which was probably originally planted for firewood.
Left unchecked, the wattle infestation around Waikawa/Waitohi will spread. We have an obligation to our ngāhere to try to prevent further displacement of our indigenous vegetation. We welcome whānau to join us at Dawn Chorus/Kaipūpū Sanctuary’s upcoming Wattle Control Training Event on 11 May to learn more about controlling Wattle on your whenua. Find out more about this event and RSVP here.
